24. The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones.

Praising a child correctly is important to the development of positive behaviors. It's a great way to encourage constructive future behavior. Children who often receive praise and encouragement have higher self-esteem.


26. The luxuries and convenience of contemporary life prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals. 

New technology may make everyday life more convenient, and may relieve much of the mental stress the average human has to undergo in a given day. However, our increasing dependence on modern devices for everyday tasks is a cause for concern. As our new generation being introduced to a world with fancy technologies, they are gradually losing certain necessary skills. For example, the advent of satellite navigation has meant that anyone who can afford for a GPS device may seldom need to rely on their own sense of direction. Many cognitive skills have been outsourced to modern technology, and in the absence of all our gadgets, we might find ourselves vulnerable and inept.

30. Teachers' salaries should be based on their students' academic performance.

A teacher's professional duties may extend beyond formal teaching. Outside of the classroom, teachers may help with the organization of school ceremonies, serve as supervisors for extracurricular activities, and so on. In some education systems, teachers may have the responsibilities for student discipline. There are a variety of bodies designed for instill, preserve and update the knowledge and professional standing of teachers. 

33. As we acquire more knowledge, things do not become more comprehensible, but more complex and mysterious.

As people are faced with growing levels of information overload, the inability to make clear and accurate decisions can increase their stress levels.  Part of the problem of information overload can be traced to interruptions in the workplace. Interruptions include incoming e-mail messages, phone calls and instant messaging. They break mental focus, and redirect it into the source of the interruption. In order to deal with the interruption, the person has to redirect their attention back to the original task.

36. Governments should not fund any scientific research whose consequences are unclear.

Whether governments should fund any scientific research regardless of its contribution to the world, it only depends on the inspiration of making our society better. Although all living things deserve at least some minimal moral status, science should be encouraged in a wide range because it motivates human beings to solve problems. In a Ted talk that Marc Abrahams delivered in 2014, he introduced the Ig Nobel Awards to explore the most improbable research. He believe that these truly weird cases of science is critical to boosting public interest in science. And, surely, when they make people laugh, they also make them stop and think. That's what I believe the governments should do.

39. College students should be encourage to pursue subjects that interest them rather than the courses that seem most likely to lead jobs.

The purpose of higher education is to help students navigate academic world and equip them with practical knowledge. However, some programs often focus on their research field, which suggests that they continue to guide the students with vacuous theories instead of useful skills. Encouraging students to pursue subjects that interest them is important, but it is also the schools' responsibility to help students prepared for getting into the job market. Before the students decide their major, they should be able to answer the following questions: What types of jobs or careers appeal to you? What are your strength and weakness? What kind of skills do you have? What were your best subjects? Do you really value what you learned and have an interest in it? Based on their answers, students can seek initial guidance from the schools or motivate themselves through basic courses.

43. The increasingly rapid pace of life causes more problems than it solves.

Cities are often centers of health education, research, technology, and advanced services. But some of the lifestyle aspects of urban life are contributing to the rising of noncommunicable disease in the city. The rapid pace of urban life may lead to neglect of nutrition and provide little physical stimulation. Thus, the burgeoning urban environment may take more away form people's health than it gives back. Unless a conscious effort and planning are used to create healthy cities.
